Specifically, to support the New Product Development Mechanical Engineering function within the Radiology Business. Projects will range from purely mechanical systems to complex electro-mechanical systems but will generally focus on interpreting requirements and developing solutions to meet those requirements. This includes the application of mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and materials selection. The role will include problem solving, component design, development of test methods, fixtures, and procedures, analyzing and interpreting data, writing test reports, and liaising with suppliers. This position requires creativity, detail orientation, solid problem solving skills, perseverance throughout the problem solving process, and sound judgment to resolve problems and ensure proper communication. In addition, excellent written communication skills are necessary to accurately document projects and develop test protocols and reports. This individual will interact daily with engineers and technicians from various disciplines. This position is located at the Indianola Facility with the possibility of occasional travel to other Bayer facilities, customer sites, or suppliers. More specifically related to this role, the incumbent will be responsible for:
Assist Mechanical Engineering team in the design, development, and test of mechanical components, modules, and subsystems.
Assist senior engineers performing and writing detailed safety assessments (FMEAs).
Perform various analyses (FEA, tolerances, etc.) to assess feasibility of concepts.
Responsible for independent mechanical tasks on smaller projects or sub-tasks from larger projects. This may include occasional travel to suppliers or customers to identify and resolve problems.
Interface directly with internal engineering and technician staff, production/service staff, and component suppliers throughout the troubleshooting or development process.
Troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate technical problems through the use of analytical skills, tools, and methodologies such as CAD modeling, basic statistical analysis, troubleshooting techniques, etc.
Works under supervision and collaborates with engineers in other disciplines as well as directing the work of technicians and mechanical designers to conduct and document technical activities. Comfortably communicates opportunities, problems and results in written and verbal forms.
Defines requirements for less complex designs and material selection.
Responsible for one design element at a time within single discipline.
Acquired understanding of the product and clinical applications.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least four or more (4+) years of experience in knowledge and application of engineering and scientific concepts in Mechanical Engineering;
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and up to two or more (0-2+) years of experience in knowledge and application of engineering and scientific concepts in Mechanical Engineering;
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering;
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate technical problems;
Proven ability to conduct mechanical analyses (FEA, mold filling, tolerance analyses, etc.). Experience with ANSYS, Abaqus, MoldFlow, MathCAD and other analysis programs highly desirable;
Proven ability to conduct and document basic technical activities such as detailed design analysis, tolerance analysis, evaluation of failure data, application of statistics, etc.;
Computer aided design skills such as Pro/Engineer, Solidworks, or AutoCAD highly desirable;
Proven ability to define requirements for simple designs and material selection;
Strong understanding of basic manufacturing methods and capabilities (injection molding, machining, casting, etc.);
Working knowledge and proven skills of PC computer operating system including Microsoft office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
Strong competency in Customer Focus, Driving for Results, Integrity and Trust, Ethics and Values and Compassion;
